New breakthrough shows promise for affordable plastic solar energy cells

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida researchers report they have achieved a new record in efficiency with a prototype solar cell that could be manufactured using a roll-to-roll process.

“Imagine making solar panels by a process that looks like printing newspaper roll to roll,” said Franky So, a UF professor in the department of materials science and engineering.

The study found that sleep helps facilitate and enhance complex cognitive skills such as decision-making. The researchers believe the effect may depend on the rapid-eye-movement period of the sleeping cycle.

DESPITE efforts to phase-out ozone depleting gases like CFCs and HCFCs, depletion of the ozone layer over the Arctic has reached an unprecedented level this spring, according to the UN's World Meteorological Organisation.

Very low winter temperatures in the stratosphere combined with the continuing presence of long-lifetime ozone-depleting substances in the atmosphere are blamed.
